Health in challenging times

"It is no measure of health to be well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society." Jiddu Krishnamurti
Krishnamurti may have died 40 years ago, but these words certainly stand the test of time. I was prompted to share them today on hearing about the forthcoming changes to social media access for young people. I do hope that this can be implemented in a way that can protect young people, improve mental and physical #health, and reduce risk.
There is much about 'modern' living that does not seem to have much to do with nourishing well-being and health. In therapy I very often hear clients wondering what is wrong with them because they are not thriving in environments of over-work and continual exposure to technology, of caring commitments beyond their capacity to cope, of financial pressures to make ends meet, and of socio-political uncertainty and threat on a scale that seems to to be escalating.
I think these challenges are difficult to thrive in. Finding congruence and #authenticity, and living in line with the values you hold dear are essential to health, they are not nice to haves. Challenging as it may be, whatever your circumstances, being yourself, and honouring what matters to you is important. Thriving may come despite the environment, not because of it, and daring to be different is often essential.
For support in finding your own congruent path through life, #psychotherapy may be helpful. If this is of interest do get in touch at fejrobinson@gmail.com or on 01325 790495.
