“I am not what happened to me
I am who I choose to become”
Carl Jung
I love this powerful quote from one of the giants of the therapeutic landscape. Stories matter, and often in therapy clients want them to be witnessed and honoured, they need their truth to be heard.
What is important is to conduct therapy in a way that helps clients to choose who and how they become. We are all in a process of unfolding, we are all changing and growing, and we can shape and choose the direction of that.
What happened brought each of us to where we are. It is not who we are, it need not define us. Being open to letting the past go, and to step into the possibilities ahead can take courage. Psychotherapy is a process that can help you heal and find the strength inside to overcome limiting beliefs from the past and to find new stories in the present and for the future.
I work with clients using a range of approaches, including Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, and the NLP FIRST Trauma Protocol to help integrate and move past things that have caused traumatic responses. If you would like to shape new beginnings in your life, then get in touch.
