Light yourself up with your heart's desire

People come to psychotherapy because there is some sort of gap for them, a difference between how they are / things are, and how they want them to be. Sometimes this is because of a life event or circumstance, sometimes its a relationship that troubles them, and sometimes it's just that life does not feel as vibrant or enjoyable as they want it to be.
In today's blog I want to reflect a little on the last of these, that sense of #ennui where there is perhaps listlessness or dissatisfaction. I want to reflect on what is needed to inspire someone to step up and step out, to create more of what they want in their life.
A lovely frame for this is the concept of our Heart's Desire. Here I am talking about those things that light you up in your body, that uplift and #energise you when you think of them or do them. They tend to be those desires that come from inside that connect with your #purpose in the world, they are deeply aligned with your sense of self.
It's really important to have a strong sense of who you are and what you value in order to live a good life. Being clear about your purpose can be very clarifying, it can simplify the complex situations that we find ourselves in, and act as a compass to assist you in navigating life in a fulfilling way.
To help you begin to reflect on how to light yourself up with your heart's desire, consider what you loved to do as a child. Also ask yourself, what would I love to do just now? How would I like to be? What do I want to create? As you reflect, be open to answers that don't come in words, let your #bodymind show you and see what you are drawn to.
A life well lived is one where we enable ourselves to show up as we truly are, in all our idiosyncrasies and in all of our unique vibrance. Only you can bring to the world what you bring, no-one else. Valuing who you are and what you have inside is critical for mental health and well-being, and its a virtue too often lost in the hustle and bustle of daily life.
As the spring flowers start to peek out of the earth, take time to reflect on what you want to bring into the light this coming spring. Slow down, and reflect carefully on which flowers you want to send forth, where and with whom. Let your body show you the way...what is your heart's desire?
