How to be a hero

“If you want to see the brave, look at those who can forgive. If you want to see the heroic, look at those who can love in return for hatred.” The Bhagavad Gita

I found this quote very moving, it does indeed take a lot for us to forgive and to love in the face of adversity.  When I’m finding it hard, I ask myself, ‘Where is the sacred in this?’  Difficulty brings growth and lessons, and anyone can teach, even in a contrast frame where we identify what we don’t want to do/be and do the opposite or something different. Being a hero is sometimes about the capacity to listen and learn from what happens.

So often people want life to change, people to change, circumstances to change.  This is a natural longing.  It is also true that the only person we actually have the capacity to change is our own self.  When we do this, oftentimes people move with us, and sometimes they don’t.  Having the courage to do the right thing and make congruent choices in the face of this is a resourcefulness indeed.
